Since January this year, more than 2,790 Indian nationals living illegally in the United States have been deported and repatriated, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.

At a weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the individuals were sent back after their identities and nationalities were verified by Indian authorities. “Since January 2025, around 2,790 Indian nationals who were staying in the US without valid documents have been deported. Their credentials and nationality were verified before their return. This is the status as of October 29,” Jaiswal told reporters.

Responding to a related query, Jaiswal also revealed that nearly 100 Indian nationals have been deported from the United Kingdom this year after verification. “From the UK side, about 100 Indian nationals have been deported so far in 2025 following due verification of their nationality,” he added.

The deportations come amid growing cooperation between India and several countries, including the US and UK, to curb illegal migration and facilitate the safe repatriation of undocumented citizens.
