A massive anti-terror operation has entered its third day in the dense forests of Gambhir Mughlan in Rajouri.

Where security forces are tracking three suspected Pakistani terrorists believed to be hiding in heavily forested terrain near the border belt.

Personnel from the Army’s Romeo Force, along with teams from the CRPF, Special Operations Group and Jammu and Kashmir Police, have sealed off the area with a multi-layered cordon. Drones, helicopters and advanced surveillance systems are being used to monitor the forest and prevent any escape.

The operation began on May 24 after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of terrorists in the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan region. Security forces soon established contact with the group, leading to a brief exchange of fire before the suspects retreated deeper into the forest.

The Army’s White Knight Corps said the mission, codenamed Op Sheruwali, is continuing with additional reinforcements deployed to tighten the cordon around the area.

Sources said forces opened fire at two suspected hideout locations inside the forest in an effort to force the terrorists out, but there was no response. Security personnel continued search operations overnight to ensure the group could not use darkness to escape.

Officials believe all three suspects are Pakistani nationals and are hiding in difficult terrain covered with thick foliage. Forces are moving cautiously through the forest to avoid civilian harm while closing in on the group.

According to officials, the same group had earlier managed to evade capture, but security agencies believe the chances of escape are now slim due to extensive surveillance and monitoring of possible exit routes.
