Dhoni Douses Retirement Talk Again: “Me and CSK—Together for the Next 15-20 Years”

Even as speculation about MS Dhoni’s retirement from the IPL refuses to die down, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend has again made his stance clear—his relationship with the franchise is for life.

Speaking at a private event in Chennai on Saturday, the 44-year-old former India captain assured fans that while his playing future remains undecided, his bond with CSK is unbreakable.

“I have always said there’s a lot of time for me to decide,” Dhoni said. “But if you’re asking about coming back in a yellow jersey—we will always be in yellow, whether I am playing or not is a different matter.”

The five-time IPL champion, who has been synonymous with CSK since the league’s inception in 2008, added: “Me and CSK, we are together. Even for the next 15-20 years.”

Dhoni returned to lead CSK in the 2025 season after initially handing over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, an injury to Gaikwad mid-season forced Dhoni back into the captaincy. Despite his comeback, CSK endured one of their worst campaigns ever, managing just four wins in 14 matches and finishing at the bottom of the table.

Still, Dhoni’s presence remained the heart of the team—commanding the loyalty of fans and players alike. While many expected IPL 2024 to be his swansong, Dhoni made a strong comeback in 2025 after recovering from knee surgery, quelling doubts about his physical readiness.

As the whispers about his retirement continue, one thing is certain: Dhoni and CSK are far from done—at least in spirit.
