Sanju Samson Reportedly Seeks Trade from Rajasthan Royals Ahead of IPL 2026.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has reportedly submitted a formal trade request ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, signaling a potential exit from the franchise he has led since 2021.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Samson is believed to be exploring options to move on following a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw the Royals finish ninth in the standings. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter featured in only nine matches due to a hand injury and is said to be reconsidering his future with the team.
The move also comes amid reports of friction between Samson and head coach Rahul Dravid, who returned to the Royals after completing his tenure with the Indian national side. During the April 16 match against Delhi Capitals — a Super Over loss — Samson’s body language was scrutinized by fans, with many noting his absence from the team huddle and apparent detachment during interactions with Dravid.
While Dravid dismissed speculation of a rift at a press conference on April 18, stating the two “are on the same page” and that Samson remains “an integral part of the decision-making,” rumors of discord persisted throughout the season.
Another factor reportedly influencing Samson’s decision is the rise of a new opening pair — Yashasvi Jaiswal and 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. With the teenager’s breakthrough performances, Samson was pushed to No.3 in the batting order, a role he is said to be uncomfortable making permanent.
While no serious trade offers have been received so far, the Royals’ decision to retain Samson at ₹18 crore underscores his value. However, the trade request marks a significant moment in the lead-up to IPL 2026 and could reshape the Royals’ leadership and core lineup if it materializes.
