Chief Justice BR Gavai has assured a fresh review of the Supreme Court’s order to remove stray dogs from residential areas in Delhi-NCR, following widespread public concern.
The directive, issued on Monday, mandates relocating all stray dogs to shelters in response to a rise in dog bite and rabies cases. During a hearing this morning, the Chief Justice was informed about an earlier court ruling that prohibited the relocation and euthanasia of stray dogs, emphasizing adherence to existing laws and guidelines protecting them.
In response, Chief Justice Gavai said, “I will look into this,” raising hopes among animal welfare advocates who oppose the removal of dogs from public streets.
