Birthday Boy Sinner Downs Atmane, Sets Cincinnati Final Clash With Alcaraz.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner marked his 24th birthday in style by halting French qualifier Terence Atmane’s fairytale run at the Cincinnati Open, winning 7-6(4), 6-2 on Saturday to reach the final of the Masters 1000 event. The top seed was rock-solid on serve, winning 91% of his first-serve points, never facing a break point, and converting twice from five opportunities in a clinical 86-minute performance.

“It was a very tough challenge,” Sinner said after being serenaded with “Happy Birthday” by the crowd. “Every time you play someone completely new, it’s very difficult.” The first set was tight, with neither player conceding a break chance. Sinner, who dropped only three points on serve, forced a tiebreak with three dominant holds to love. Atmane blinked first with a double fault, and the Italian seized control to edge ahead.

In the second, Sinner survived a nine-minute opening game before striking the decisive blow for 3-1. Another break sealed the result, as Atmane netted a forehand on match point. Atmane, ranked 136, leaves Cincinnati with a breakthrough run, highlighted by stunning wins over top-10 players Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune en route to his first Masters 1000 semifinal.

In the other semi, second seed Carlos Alcaraz overcame Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3 in a match briefly interrupted by a medical emergency in the crowd. The Spaniard fended off three early break points before seizing momentum with a sharp volley at 4-3. Despite a shaky game of four double faults in the second set, Alcaraz regained control and closed out the match with authority.

“Happy for the final but feeling bad for Sasha,” Alcaraz wrote on the camera lens after. “Wish you all the best.” The final now pits tennis’ brightest young stars against each other once again — a third title clash this season following Sinner’s triumphs over Alcaraz at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
