Rahul Gandhi Warns Top Election Officials of Action Once Congress Comes to Power

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday escalated his criticism of the Election Commission over.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, warning that action would be taken against the chief election commissioner and two election commissioners if the INDIA bloc comes to power.

Speaking at a gathering in Gaya, Bihar, Gandhi accused the poll panel of engaging in “vote chori” (vote theft) and questioned why he was being asked to file an affidavit despite alleged irregularities. He described the alleged vote theft as an attack on the soul of ‘Bharat Mata’.

Gandhi said, “I want to tell the Election Commission that the whole country will ask you to give an affidavit. Give us time, we will document the theft in every assembly and Lok Sabha constituency and present it to the people.”

Comparing the SIR initiative in Bihar to a “special package,” Gandhi alleged, “Like PM Modi talks of a special package, the Election Commission has brought a special package for Bihar named SIR, which is a new form of vote theft.” The remarks came as he concluded the second day of his Voter Adhikar Yatra alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, Gandhi alleged, “Whatever I say, I do it. You have seen that I don’t lie from the stage… these three election commissioners… Tejashwi ji said that you have taken BJP membership and are working for them. But understand one thing, a day will come when the INDIA bloc forms the government in Bihar and Delhi; then we will take action against the three of you. You’ve stolen votes from the entire country.”

The statement follows a seven-day ultimatum issued by CEC Kumar asking Gandhi to submit a signed affidavit backing his claims, warning that failing to do so would render the allegations baseless. The Election Commission has repeatedly rejected Gandhi’s and other opposition leaders’ claims, calling them misleading.
