China Assures India of Action on Fertilisers, Rare Earths, Machinery Amid Border Talks.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has assured External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar that Beijing will address India’s concerns over fertilisers, rare earths, and tunnel-boring machines during his two-day visit to New Delhi.

The assurance came as Wang held talks with Jaishankar on Monday. The External Affairs Minister stressed that India and China must adopt a “candid and constructive” approach to rebuild ties after a difficult period, guided by “mutual respect, sensitivity and interest.”

Jaishankar also underscored the need to push forward the de-escalation process along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, where the two armies faced off for over four years. He called the maintenance of peace in border areas the basis for positive momentum in bilateral relations.

The minister further highlighted counter-terrorism cooperation as a “major priority,” reiterating concerns he had raised during his recent visit to Beijing.

Wang’s trip is seen as part of efforts to stabilise relations strained since the deadly Galwan Valley clashes of 2020. On Tuesday, he will hold the Special Representatives dialogue on the boundary issue with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The talks are expected to review the situation along the LAC and explore new confidence-building measures.

Though troops from both sides have disengaged from friction points, around 50,000–60,000 soldiers remain deployed on each side in eastern Ladakh, with full de-escalation yet to be achieved.

Recent months have seen steps to normalise ties, including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and India’s decision to restart tourist visas for Chinese nationals.
