Vivek Agnihotri Alleges ‘Top Authorities’ Tried to Block The Bengal Files Trailer.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has accused the West Bengal government of attempting to obstruct the trailer launch of his upcoming film The Bengal Files in Kolkata. The event, held on August 16 at ITC Royal Bengal, saw the trailer screening abruptly stopped, prompting Agnihotri to allege “official involvement.”

Speaking to ANI, Agnihotri said the programme was running smoothly before visuals on a large LED screen were suddenly cut off. He argued that an event of such scale—attended by 150–200 people including media—could not have been halted without the knowledge of authorities.

The filmmaker further claimed he was told by reliable sources that “top authorities” had objected to certain portions of the trailer. “It was already planned…a man came and cut the wire,” he alleged.

Agnihotri also revealed that two multiplexes had earlier cancelled the event, citing political pressure. “They said they wouldn’t survive politically if they showed the trailer,” he noted.

When asked if he expected the film to release in Bengal, Agnihotri said he hoped the government would not deny its people the right to watch it. “If the release is blocked, I trust the Constitution and the law of India, and I will fight for it,” he added.
