South Africa Clinch ODI Series with Convincing Win Over Australia.
South Africa secured the ODI series against Australia with an emphatic 84-run victory in the second match at Mackay on Friday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead. The triumph was anchored by Matthew Breetzke’s fluent 88 and Tristan Stubbs’ composed 74, before Lungi Ngidi dismantled Australia’s batting lineup with a five-wicket haul.
After early losses of Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, South Africa recovered through Tony de Zorzi (38) and Breetzke, who combined patience with aggression. Stubbs ensured momentum was maintained, while Wiaan Mulder (26) and Keshav Maharaj (22*) pushed the total to 277 in 49.1 overs. Adam Zampa (3/63) and Nathan Ellis (2/46) provided resistance for Australia, but it wasn’t enough.
Australia’s reply collapsed against Ngidi’s pace and precision. The pacer claimed 5/42, dismissing key batsmen including Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, Xavier Bartlett, and Adam Zampa, and was named Player of the Match. Inglis fought valiantly with 87 off 74 balls, while Cameron Green (35) and Mitchell Marsh (18) could not build partnerships. Support from Nandre Burger (2/23) and Senuran Muthusamy (2/30) helped tighten the grip, and Australia were all out for 193 in 37.4 overs.
This marks South Africa’s fifth consecutive bilateral ODI series win over Australia since 2016. With one game remaining, the Proteas will look to complete a clean sweep, while Australia aim to salvage pride.
