Taylor Fritz Seals Victory as Team World Wins Third Laver Cup.
Star American Taylor Fritz delivered the decisive blow to Team Europe’s hopes at the Laver Cup 2025, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to secure Team World’s third title on Sunday, September 21, in San Francisco. Fritz proved to be the most consistent performer throughout the tournament.
Firing a backhand volley winner on his first match point, Fritz gave Team World a 15-9 victory over Europe, sparking jubilant celebrations from teammates and World captain Andre Agassi at Chase Center. Fritz was mobbed by his teammates immediately after the final point, while Roger Federer applauded from the stands.
Fritz dominated the opening set against a tired-looking Zverev. In the second set, Zverev fought back, leveling the set at 4-4 and generating some tense moments. However, Fritz held his nerve in the tiebreak, winning four of the final five points to seal the match.
Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz, fresh from his sixth Grand Slam at the US Open, had kept Europe’s title defence alive with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo. Alcaraz and Casper Ruud had also reduced Europe’s deficit with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 doubles victory against Reilly Opelka and Alex Michelsen to kick off Sunday’s action.
With Fritz’s heroics, Team World celebrated a third Laver Cup triumph, cementing their dominance in the global tennis showdown.
