Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur Sent on Leave Amid IPS Officer Suicide Case

Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur has been placed on leave after senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar’s suicide note allegedly named him and seven other officers for harassment and discrimination. A formal probe into the matter is underway.

Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer serving as Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Rohtak, was found dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7. Investigators recovered an eight-page suicide note in which Kumar accused senior officers, including DGP Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, of maligning his image, harassment, caste-based discrimination, and professional isolation.

Following the revelation, Bijarniya was transferred, and Kapur has been moved on leave pending inquiry.

Kapur, who became Haryana’s top cop in August 2023, has previously served as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and with the CBI, handling sensitive investigations at both state and national levels.

The suicide also appears linked to a bribery case involving a head constable who allegedly demanded Rs 2.5 lakh from a liquor contractor in Kumar’s name. The constable has been arrested and is in judicial custody.

Haryana Social Justice Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi confirmed that the government is ensuring justice for Kumar’s family. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi and Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar have met the family, and a detailed probe is ongoing.
