Dubai to Get a Floating Museum of Art Redefining Cultural Innovation.
Dubai is set to add another architectural marvel to its skyline with the launch of the Dubai Museum of Art (DUMA) — a groundbreaking cultural landmark that will literally float above the waters of Dubai Creek. Blending futuristic design with deep-rooted heritage, DUMA is envisioned as a global hub for art, creativity, and cultural exchange.
Sheikh Mohammed Unveils Visionary Floating Landmark
Announcing the project, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, described DUMA as “a museum that floats above Dubai Creek, embodying the city’s artistic brilliance and civilisational depth.” He said the museum would introduce “a new architectural dimension” to Dubai’s landscape, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a leader in cultural innovation.
Sheikh Mohammed also acknowledged the role of the private sector in bringing the project to life, commending Abdullah Al Futtaim and his son Omar Al Futtaim for their contributions to creating “a cultural beacon that enriches the city and its community.”
A Masterpiece of Design and Inspiration
Designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, DUMA’s design draws inspiration from the natural elements of water, light, air, and sky. Its shell-like form pays tribute to Dubai’s pearl diving heritage, symbolising harmony between tradition and innovation.
Inside, the museum will feature five expansive levels dedicated to exhibitions from leading and emerging international artists. It will also house a library, education spaces, a café, and panoramic observation decks, offering visitors an immersive cultural journey that extends beyond art.
A New Global Destination for Art and Culture
Set on an island in the heart of Dubai Creek, DUMA will serve as a hub for global artistic collaboration and creativity. Once complete, it will join the ranks of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks — including the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Frame, Museum of the Future, and Mohammed bin Rashid Library — further solidifying Dubai’s status as a world capital of design, culture, and innovation.
