Trump Claims Victory After Bill Gates Says Climate Change ‘Won’t End Civilization’

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared victory over what he has long called the “climate change hoax,” following comments from billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates suggesting that global warming would not spell the end of humanity.

“I (WE!) just won the War on the Climate Change Hoax. Bill Gates has finally admitted that he was completely WRONG on the issue,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, adding, “It took courage to do so, and for that we are all grateful.”

In a lengthy memo published earlier this week, the Microsoft co-founder said that while climate change poses “serious” risks, it “will not lead to humanity’s demise.” Gates argued that most people would “be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future.”

He added that efforts to fight poverty and disease would better equip vulnerable populations to deal with a warming planet. Gates also acknowledged potential criticism of his stance, including charges of hypocrisy over his own carbon footprint, but said his intent was not to downplay the seriousness of climate change.

“I understand some may think this means we shouldn’t take climate change seriously — that’s not true,” he wrote, noting that advances in technology have already helped cut emissions and would continue to do so.

Trump, a longtime climate skeptic, has repeatedly dismissed global warming as “the greatest con job ever.” Since returning to the White House in January after his 2024 election win, the Republican president has rolled back several environmental regulations and eased restrictions on fossil fuel production, policies strongly backed by the energy sector.
