Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, continued its impressive box office run over the opening weekend, posting strong numbers on Day 3 after releasing in theatres on May 15.

According to trade estimates from Sacnilk, the fantasy action drama earned around Rs 28.35 crore gross on Sunday. With this, the film’s total India gross collection reached approximately Rs 78.75 crore, while its India net collection stood at Rs 68 crore after three days.

The film had opened with Rs 16.66 crore gross on Friday, with the India net figure at Rs 14.40 crore. Collections witnessed a sharp rise on Saturday as the film earned Rs 24.15 crore, before maintaining steady momentum on Sunday as well.

The strong weekend performance has made Karuppu the second-biggest opener of Suriya’s career and the highest Tamil opening of 2026 so far.

Story and cast

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu is a fantasy action drama centred around justice and social oppression.

The film’s trailer introduced a world where corrupt lawyers exploit vulnerable people, leading to the rise of Karuppusamy — a deity associated with justice — who takes human form to protect the oppressed and restore balance.

Apart from Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, the film also stars Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada and Anagha Maaya Ravi in key roles. RJ Balaji also appears in the film as the antagonist.

The background score has been composed by Sai Abhyankar.

Positive audience response

Following the release, social media reactions largely praised Suriya’s screen presence and transformation into the role of Karuppusamy. Several viewers also appreciated RJ Balaji’s direction and the film’s blend of action, fantasy and emotional storytelling.

Many audience reviews highlighted the engaging first half and commercially packed second half, while others praised Trisha Krishnan’s performance and Sai Abhyankar’s background music for enhancing the theatrical experience.

The film has continued to generate strong word-of-mouth, helping sustain its momentum at the box office through the opening weekend.
