Hamza Burhan, a Pakistan-based terror operative linked to the banned outfit Al-Badr and accused of involvement in the 2019 Pulwama attack, was killed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Thursday, according to security sources.

Burhan, also known as Arjumand Gulzar Dar and reportedly operating under the codename “Doctor”, was allegedly among the key conspirators associated with the Pulwama attack that killed more than 40 CRPF personnel.

Wanted terrorists attend funeral
Funeral prayers for Burhan were held in Islamabad on Friday and were attended by several Pakistan-based terror figures, according to visuals shared online and inputs from security officials.

Among those reportedly present were Syed Salahuddin and Al-Badr chief Bakht Zameen Khan. Visuals from the gathering showed heavily armed men providing security during the funeral proceedings.

Sources also claimed that individuals linked to Pakistan’s intelligence establishment were seen at the event, though there has been no official confirmation from Pakistani authorities.

Killed in PoK
According to reports, Burhan had been living in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir for several years under a different identity and was working at a private educational institution in Muzaffarabad.

Police officials in Pakistan reportedly said unidentified gunmen attacked him near the college premises on Thursday morning. He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries but later died during treatment.

Authorities claimed one suspect had been detained in connection with the shooting, while the weapon allegedly used in the attack was also recovered.

Role in Pulwama attack
Burhan was originally from Ratnipora in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district and had reportedly travelled to Pakistan before joining Al-Badr.

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs designated him as a terrorist in 2022 over alleged involvement in terror recruitment, radicalisation and financing activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security agencies accused him of helping coordinate logistics and support networks linked to terror operations in the Valley.

Focus on Pakistan terror links
Burhan’s funeral has once again drawn attention to allegations regarding the presence of wanted terror operatives in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The incident comes amid a series of mysterious killings involving extremist figures in the region over the past few years, many of whom were linked to banned organisations operating against India.
