Pune Fort Murder: Brother’s Cricket Friendship Linked Siya and Co-Accused Chetan, Say Police

The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has revealed how co-accused Chetan Chaudhary first became acquainted with the Goyal family. According to police, Chetan met Siya Goyal through her brother, Sahil, after the two developed a friendship while playing cricket.

Investigators said Sahil, who was questioned for more than 10 hours on Friday, told police he had known about Siya’s relationship with Chetan for several months and had repeatedly urged her to end it as she was engaged to Ketan.

Ketan, a director at a Pune-based real estate company, died on June 18 after falling from Lohagad Fort. While the incident was initially reported as a fall, police are now treating it as a suspected murder. Siya and Chetan have been arrested and remain in police custody.

Cricket friendship led to introduction

According to investigators, Sahil and Chetan became friends in 2024 through cricket.

“They used to play cricket together, and it was through Sahil that Chetan got to know Siya,” police sources said.

What began as a friendship on the cricket field eventually brought Chetan into regular contact with the Goyal family, investigators believe.

During questioning, police focused on when Sahil first became aware of the relationship and whether anyone else in the family knew about it.

“Sahil told us he had learnt about their relationship several months ago. Since Siya was engaged to Ketan, he advised her to end it,” police sources said.

Investigators are now examining whether any warning signs were overlooked before the alleged conspiracy unfolded.

Relationship allegedly continued during wedding preparations

Police claim Siya and Chetan continued to remain in close contact even as preparations for her wedding to Ketan progressed.

According to investigators, Siya actively participated in wedding planning, frequently visited Ketan’s family and was involved in organising the celebrations. The couple had also planned a pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali.

At the same time, police allege Siya and Chetan were in constant communication. Investigators claim the duo exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls between January and June, spending nearly 238 hours speaking to each other.

Police sources further alleged that Siya had become reluctant to marry Ketan after discovering he wore a hair patch due to baldness. Ketan’s family, however, has maintained that the Goyal family had been informed about his hair treatment well before the engagement.

CCTV footage of cafe meeting under scrutiny

Investigators are also examining a meeting between Siya and Chetan that allegedly took place a day before Ketan’s death.

According to police, the two met at a cafe in Pune’s Kondhwa area on June 17 and spent around 90 minutes together. The meeting was captured on CCTV cameras, and officers are analysing the footage to determine whether it has any connection to the alleged murder plot.

Chetan, a BBA graduate and resident of Kondhwa, is being treated as a key figure in the investigation. Police are closely examining his communication records with Siya in the days leading up to Ketan’s death.

Police reconstruct sequence of events

As part of the investigation, Pune Rural Police have recorded statements from at least 10 people, including an employee at Chetan’s shop.

Investigators also took family members of both the accused and the victim to Lohagad Fort to reconstruct the sequence of events and better understand what transpired before Ketan’s death.

The case has deeply affected both families. Police sources said Siya’s father has reportedly been hospitalised following her arrest. Family members said he had been personally overseeing wedding arrangements, including travel plans for nearly 70 guests expected to attend celebrations in Ahmedabad and Rajasthan.

The investigation is ongoing, with police continuing to analyse digital evidence, CCTV footage and witness statements as they piece together the circumstances surrounding Ketan Agarwal’s death.
