Days before he was allegedly murdered, Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal had expressed fears that his fiancée, Siya Goyal, was involved with another man and questioned whether his family had carried out adequate background checks before fixing the marriage, police said.

Investigators said Ketan had repeatedly shared his concerns with his father, Vishal Agarwal, particularly about Siya’s behaviour and her frequent references to Chetan Chaudhary, who has since been arrested as a co-accused in the murder case.

According to police, Ketan first became suspicious after a planned pre-wedding trip to Bali was cancelled on June 6. He reportedly told his father that Siya had started picking fights over trivial issues, but his family initially dismissed it as pre-wedding stress.

Police said Ketan later complained that Siya’s phone was often busy whenever he called and that she frequently mentioned Chaudhary during their conversations, leading him to suspect she was in a relationship with someone else.

“After the Bali trip got cancelled on June 6, Ketan approached his father and complained about Siya picking up fights over small issues. His father told him that, as she was young, she might have been behaving in that manner and assured him that they would counsel her,” a police official said.

The concerns resurfaced after the couple returned from Lohagad Fort on June 14, when Ketan again asked his father whether the family had conducted a thorough background check before finalising the marriage.

“Ketan told his father that Siya’s phone was often busy whenever he called her and that she frequently mentioned Chaudhary during their conversations,” the officer said.

Police allege that on June 18, Ketan was pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort by Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary (22), in a premeditated plot.

The couple had been scheduled to marry in November.

Both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested and remanded to police custody until July 3 as the investigation continues.
