Jana Nayagan Review and Release Live Updates: Thalapathy Vijay’s Final Film Opens to Massive Fan Frenzy Worldwide
Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited swansong, Jana Nayagan, has finally hit theatres across the globe after months of delays and legal hurdles. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, the political action drama marks Vijay’s 69th and final film as a lead actor before his full-time transition into politics.
The film, which has a runtime of 183 minutes and has received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, features a star-studded cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Narain. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Massive Advance Booking Sets the Tone
Jana Nayagan has opened to an overwhelming response from fans. Domestic advance bookings crossed ₹14–15 crore before release, while the film’s total first-day advance booking collection, including block seats, reached around ₹25.37 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Celebrations began as early as the first shows, with fans gathering outside theatres across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and several overseas markets. From drum performances and fireworks to milk abhishekams and giant cut-outs, the release has turned into a festival-like occasion for Vijay’s admirers.
Can Jana Nayagan Match Leo?
While the film has generated tremendous excitement, its pre-release numbers are still behind Vijay’s previous blockbuster, Leo. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo registered nearly ₹29.83 crore in domestic pre-sales and went on to earn approximately ₹148.5 crore worldwide on its opening day, making it Vijay’s biggest box-office opener to date.
Trade analysts are now watching closely to see whether Jana Nayagan can challenge those records through strong spot bookings and positive word of mouth.
Vijay’s Cinematic Farewell
Jana Nayagan holds special significance as it is being promoted as Vijay’s farewell film before he devotes himself entirely to politics. The release comes months after the actor-turned-politician took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, following his party TVK’s victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
For fans, the film is more than just another release—it’s the end of an era for one of Tamil cinema’s biggest superstars, making its theatrical debut an emotional and historic event.
