Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia to Set Up Joint Political and Military Mechanisms Under Defense Pact

The “Makkah Joint Defence Agreement” signed by the three countries last week, Türkiye’s Defence Ministry said on Thursday. The ministry said the new framework would bring together the three countries’ defence ministers, foreign ministers and military chiefs to strengthen coordination. It added that the pact would also expand cooperation in the defence industry, including joint production and technology sharing.

The three countries signed the agreement in Makkah on August 7 amid heightened regional tensions and concerns over the widening conflict involving Iran and Gulf states.

Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be treated as an attack against all three, reflecting the principle of collective defence similar to NATO’s Article 5.

At a weekly briefing in Ankara, the Turkish Defence Ministry said joint military exercises were also being planned as part of the agreement. The ministry said the three-way partnership would deepen defence and security cooperation while creating mechanisms for closer political and military coordination.
