Model-Actress Antara Banerjee Held for Allegedly Attacking RPF Official With Razor on Train

Model and web series actress Antara Banerjee, 31, was arrested following an alleged altercation with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel aboard the Aravali Express on August 12.

According to police, Banerjee was travelling to Surat for a shoot and had entered a reserved AC coach despite possessing a sleeper-class ticket. The situation reportedly began after a passenger asked her to vacate a reserved seat and subsequently informed ticket collector Harikesh Tripathi when she allegedly refused.

The incident took place between Borivali and Dahanu between approximately 9:30 pm and 10:50 pm. After being alerted, RPF assistant sub-inspector Yaminikant Mishra and constable Rajesh Kumar reportedly reached the coach to intervene.

Police alleged that the confrontation escalated after Banerjee allegedly abused the RPF personnel and became aggressive. Mishra reportedly told police that she undressed during the altercation, produced a razor blade and attacked him, causing injuries. Police also alleged that Banerjee sustained injuries herself during the incident.

As the situation continued, RPF personnel reportedly secured the coach doors. According to the police account, Banerjee allegedly tried to leave by breaking a glass panel. She was eventually deboarded at Dahanu railway station and handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).

Mishra also alleged that his uniform and mobile phone were damaged during the confrontation. The incident reportedly lasted for more than an hour and left fellow passengers distressed.

Banerjee was taken into custody by Borivali railway police the following morning. Borivali GRP inspector Kunda Gavade said preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses suggested that Banerjee may have been distressed after being unable to obtain an AC coach ticket.

According to Gavade, Banerjee declined to contact relatives or seek legal assistance and instead insisted that she be arrested. Police said she became calmer after the FIR was registered.

An FIR was registered on August 13, with Banerjee booked under provisions relating to allegedly endangering safety, causing grievous harm to public servants, assault and intentional insult.

She was subsequently served a notice and released on bail.
