FIR Filed Against Mamata Banerjee Over Alleged Calcutta HC Order Violation At TMC Event

Kolkata Police has registered a suo motu FIR against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and organisers of a Trinamool Congress student wing event for allegedly violating a Calcutta High Court order, according to PTI.

The case relates to the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day programme held on August 28 on Cathedral Road in Kolkata. The High Court had allowed the event but imposed conditions, including keeping one flank of the road open for traffic.

FIR Registered At Hastings Police Station

A police officer said the FIR was registered at Hastings Police Station against Banerjee and the organisers of the TMCP meeting.

The case has been filed under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the investigation will examine the role of everyone allegedly involved in violating the court’s directions.

“The FIR has been registered for the alleged violation of the court’s order,” the officer said, adding that the role of those involved would be examined during the investigation.

Police Allege Traffic Disruption

According to the complaint, the conditions imposed by the High Court were allegedly not followed during the programme.

Police alleged that some TMC supporters pushed aside barricades and got into altercations with police personnel. The incident reportedly disrupted traffic movement on Cathedral Road.

Authorities also alleged that the programme continued beyond the time limit permitted by the High Court.

Investigation Underway

The FIR follows the alleged breach of the conditions attached to the court’s permission for the event. Police will now examine the circumstances surrounding the programme, including the alleged removal of barricades, disruption of traffic and continuation of the event beyond the permitted hours.
