The Indian Army, in a joint operation with the Jammu & Kashmir Police and Srinagar Sector CRPF, killed a terrorist during an encounter in Budgam district on Friday.
The Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the operation in a post on X, saying the joint action was carried out in the Ashdar Gali area under ‘Operation Ashdar’ based on specific intelligence inputs.
The operation began on Thursday after security forces received information about the movement of a suspected group of terrorists from Pakherpora in Pulwama towards Yousmarg in Budgam, officials said.
According to the Army, troops conducting the search operation noticed suspicious movement and challenged the suspected terrorists. The militants responded with gunfire, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.
One terrorist was killed in the encounter. Security forces also recovered an AK rifle and other war-like stores from the site.
‘Operation Ashdar’ Search Continues
The identity of the slain terrorist has not yet been established. Security forces have continued combing the area as part of the ongoing operation.
The encounter took place near Doodhpathri, prompting authorities to advise tourists to avoid the popular destination until further notice, according to officials.
Security forces have intensified searches across the dense forests of the Pir Panjal range, with the area extending towards Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Pulwama and Shopian districts.
Additional personnel have been deployed to strengthen the cordon and prevent any suspected terrorists from escaping the area.
The encounter comes after several months of relative calm in the Kashmir Valley.
