Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were back together in India colours as the two veteran batters reunited during the team’s opening training session ahead of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
The reunion took place in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, September 24, with both players taking part in practice at the Greenfield International Stadium. India will begin the series at the same venue on Sunday, September 27.
Kohli and Rohit last played together for India during the ODI tour of England in July. Their most recent appearance as teammates came in the third ODI at Lord’s on July 14, making Thursday’s training session their first time back on the field together in more than two months.
KOHLI, ROHIT RETURN TO ODI PREPARATIONS
According to The Indian Express, Kohli looked in good touch during the net session, taking the attack to the bowlers and playing several of his trademark strokes.
The former India captain also took on the spinners, stepping out to hit Kuldeep Yadav over mid-wicket before producing a straight-driven six against Naman Dhir.
Rohit, meanwhile, batted in the second group after a short rain interruption. The former captain focused on his strokeplay and was seen asking Prasidh Krishna to bowl short, working on a delivery that could test him during the upcoming series.
India’s training session was scheduled from around 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm IST as the players looked to acclimatise to the local conditions. Rohit and Kohli had both arrived in Thiruvananthapuram by Thursday and joined captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the ODI squad.
INDIA PREPARE FOR THREE-MATCH SERIES
The West Indies will face India in the opening ODI on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. The second match will be played in Guwahati on September 30, followed by the series finale in New Chandigarh on October 3.
The return of Rohit and Kohli adds experience to an Indian side led by Shubman Gill. With the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, the West Indies series provides another opportunity for the two senior batters to continue their ODI careers while contributing to India’s preparations for the global tournament.
