At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured in a blast in Pakistan’s northwestern Dera Ismail Khan district on Saturday, emergency service Rescue 1122 said.
The explosion occurred near Aman Mela in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Rescue teams from the Darazinda station reached the site and began relief operations, treating the injured before taking them to hospitals.
Security monitoring sources said the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Initial local reports said an explosives-laden vehicle may have targeted a security checkpoint in Darazinda. That detail has not been independently confirmed.
Dera Ismail Khan, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near Pakistan’s border areas with Afghanistan, has experienced repeated militant attacks in recent years, including violence targeting police and security personnel.
The latest blast comes amid continued militant activity across northwestern Pakistan. Data from the South Asia Terrorism Portal has recorded several militant incidents in Dera Ismail Khan and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this month.
Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused militants operating from Afghanistan of carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities have denied allowing their territory to be used for attacks against Pakistan.
The latest casualties add to concerns over the continuing escalation of militant violence in Pakistan’s northwest.
