Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday announced that alleged narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh has been deported from Turkiye and brought back to India.
In a post on X, Shah said Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship using the alleged fake identity of Navab Virk and was involved in smuggling heroin and methamphetamine into India from Afghanistan.
“Modi govt has achieved a historic milestone by securing the deportation of hardened narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Türkiye,” Shah said.
According to the Home Minister, Indian agencies tracked Singh in Turkiye and uncovered his alleged use of a false identity before securing his deportation.
Shah said Singh was brought back to India and has been taken into custody in connection with cases involving drug trafficking and other alleged criminal activities.
“Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation,” Shah wrote.
He also congratulated the agencies involved in tracing Singh and facilitating his return to India.
The development marks the latest action by Indian agencies against individuals accused of operating international drug-trafficking networks with links to Afghanistan and India.
