Delhi Police Crime Branch Takes Over Trespassing Case Against CJP Leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Sourav Das

The investigation into the alleged unauthorised entry involving Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das has been transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch, according to police sources.

The development comes as both leaders remain in Tihar Jail after a Delhi court extended their judicial custody until October 21.

Ranka and Das were remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 14 for allegedly violating their peace bonds and entering the Jantar Mantar area without authorisation. The site has been designated for protests under specified conditions.

COURT CITES ALLEGED BREACH OF PEACE BONDS

The Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court held the two leaders responsible for allegedly violating the peace bonds they signed on October 11, 2026. The court observed that they had breached their undertakings despite assuring the authorities that they would maintain peace.

Expressing concern over repeated calls for demonstrations at locations where protests were not permitted, including Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place, the court said the conduct of the respondents raised concerns about possible further breaches of peace and disruption of public tranquillity.

The court rejected their assurances that such incidents would not recur, citing their previous conduct. It also directed both leaders to submit written statements within two days.

FRESH SURETIES SOUGHT

The court rejected the fresh sureties submitted by Ranka and Das after identifying discrepancies in their identity documents. It also noted that the proposed sureties were unable to provide basic information about the two respondents.

Both leaders were subsequently directed to furnish fresh sureties. The matter is scheduled for its next hearing on October 21 at 2 pm.

CJP LEADERS DETAINED AT JANTAR MANTAR

Ranka and Das were detained early Tuesday after allegedly crossing barricades and entering the Jantar Mantar area without permission. They were reportedly raising slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to police sources, a case was registered against the CJP activists on charges that include trespassing, violating prohibitory orders, breaching a peace bond and obstructing a public servant from performing official duties.

The two leaders had signed bonds undertaking to maintain peace for one year after being detained during a protest on Saturday, sources said.

PROTESTS OVER ELECTION ROLL REVISION

The case comes amid heightened security in the national capital following demonstrations by the CJP and other organisations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protests have focused on allegations of irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for the CEC’s resignation.

With the Crime Branch now handling the investigation, the next hearing on October 21 is expected to bring further developments in the case against the two CJP leaders.
