‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Crosses $1 Billion, James Cameron Becomes First Director with Four Blockbusters.

James Cameron’s latest installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has joined its predecessors in the billion-dollar club. According to box office trackers Comscore and Box Office Mojo, the film has now grossed over $1.03 billion globally, driven largely by strong overseas performance.

A Franchise Milestone
Produced and distributed by Walt Disney Studios, Fire and Ash is the third film in the Avatar franchise, which has collectively earned $6.35 billion worldwide. The movie continues the story from Avatar: The Way of Water, following Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they cope with the loss of their son. It is currently the third-highest-grossing film of 2025, trailing China’s Ne Zha 2 and Disney’s Zootopia 2.

Cameron’s Billion-Dollar Legacy
With this milestone, James Cameron becomes the first filmmaker to direct four films that each crossed $1 billion globally. Alongside the other two Avatar films, Cameron’s 1997 classic Titanic also earned over $1 billion. Notably, the other three films each surpassed $2 billion, a benchmark that Fire and Ash is expected to chase.

The original Avatar (2009) remains the highest-grossing film of all time at over $2.9 billion, while Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Titanic (1997) each grossed more than $2.3 billion.
