Bengal Porn Racket Accused Seen with TMC Leaders, BJP Targets Mamata Govt.
Photos of Shweta Khan, accused of operating a pornographic racket in West Bengal’s Howrah district, with senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders have surfaced online, triggering a political storm. The BJP has used the images to target Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, raising questions over her government’s stance on women’s safety.
Shweta Khan and her son allegedly ran a film production house in Domjur, where “soft pornographic reels” were produced. The duo went underground last week after a woman accused them of detaining and brutally assaulting her for refusing to act in a porn film.
Following the complaint, a Facebook profile under the name “Sweta Khatoon” emerged, showing the accused with TMC leaders at various events, including iftar gatherings. The profile lists her as working with TMC and features photos with Minister Arup Roy, MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and former minister Rajib Banerjee. The cover photo displays Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, MP Abhishek Banerjee.
BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal said the photos proved the accused’s proximity to TMC and criticized the lack of arrests. “Despite serious charges, no action has been taken. This shows a complete breakdown of law and order,” she said.
TMC has not yet released an official statement.
The case involves a 23-year-old woman from Sodepur, who was allegedly held captive for months and subjected to horrific physical abuse, including broken limbs and attempted sexual assault with an iron rod. She is currently hospitalized and fighting for her life.
Police believe a sex racket may have also been operating under the guise of an event management agency. A search is underway for Shweta Khan and her son, who remain absconding.
