Days after the deadly stampede at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed 41 lives and injured at least 60, BJP leader Khusbu Sundar accused.

The ruling DMK of negligence, calling the tragedy a “planned” and “created” incident. She criticised Chief Minister MK Stalin for failing to provide adequate space for the rally and said, “41 people died. He should speak now; someone needs to unmute him.”

Eyewitnesses reported that a power outage, crowd surges, and narrow venue space contributed to the chaos. Vijay, scheduled to arrive at noon, reached around 7 pm, intensifying crowd movement as his campaign bus entered, prompting people to climb trees, roofs, and power lines. Authorities had to cut electrical lines to prevent accidents, and police resorted to a lathi charge to control the crowd.

Sundar questioned the police response, adding that video evidence suggested the incident may have been orchestrated. Responding to claims of Vijay being BJP’s “B-team,” senior leader Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “We are ‘P-team’—the people’s team.”

Sources indicate that the BJP reached out to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) soon after the stampede, signalling intentions to leverage his fan base ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. A senior BJP leader reportedly assured TVK that Vijay would have support if targeted by the DMK and advised patience while the party strategises to challenge the ruling government.
