Despite the controversy surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, Hyderabad-based Coempt Eduteck is expected to remain involved in the Class 12 re-evaluation process, sources said.
The company will continue scanning answer sheets submitted for re-evaluation, while the OSM platform will also be used to facilitate the assessment process. However, in a significant move aimed at strengthening oversight and data security, CBSE has taken direct control of student records and answer-sheet data. All relevant information has reportedly been migrated from Coempt Eduteck’s servers to CBSE-managed servers, ensuring that the board retains custody of sensitive examination data during the re-evaluation exercise.
Sources said the board has also introduced additional safeguards to protect the system against cyber threats and potential data breaches. While attempts have reportedly been made to target the portal, no successful intrusion has been detected so far.
The re-evaluation process is being conducted through two separate digital systems — a CBSE registration portal and the OSM evaluation platform. The registration portal, initially launched in May, encountered technical issues that triggered complaints from students and parents. Following corrective measures, the portal was relaunched and is currently functioning without major disruptions, sources added.
Coempt Eduteck has come under scrutiny in recent weeks after allegations emerged regarding the tendering process through which it secured the CBSE contract. Critics have questioned certain eligibility and qualification criteria associated with the bidding process, while some students have also raised concerns about discrepancies in digitally evaluated answer sheets, including claims of missing pages and unchecked responses.
The company’s past association with examination-related controversies in other states has further intensified public attention on its role in CBSE’s evaluation system. However, the board has firmly rejected allegations of irregularities in awarding the contract.
CBSE has maintained that the selection process complied with all applicable government procurement norms and financial regulations. The board said the contract was awarded through a transparent and competitive tender process, with Coempt Eduteck emerging as the technically and financially qualified bidder after a multi-stage evaluation conducted through the government’s e-procurement framework.
