China has lodged strong representations and formal protests with Japan over Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent remarks on Taiwan, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, said on Monday.
On Friday, Takaichi told Japanese lawmakers that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could pose a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan, according to Kyodo News.
Lin warned that Japan’s interference in cross-strait affairs would seriously damage China-Japan relations and urged Tokyo to refrain from further provocations.
