Cierra Ortega’s Parents Respond to Backlash Following Her Love Island USA Exit: ‘No One Deserves This Kind of Hate.’
Following her removal from Love Island USA Season 7 over resurfaced racist social media posts, Cierra Ortega’s parents have issued a public statement addressing the controversy and the intense online backlash that followed.
Cierra was dropped from the show after past posts featuring offensive language, including an anti-Asian slur, resurfaced online. Her departure was announced in Episode 30 with host Iain Stirling telling viewers that she had “left the villa due to a personal reason.” No further explanation was offered on air, but multiple reports confirmed her exit was directly tied to the controversy.
‘We’re Not Here to Justify, But This Has Gone Too Far’
In their statement, Cierra’s parents acknowledged the gravity of the situation but pleaded for an end to the threats and online abuse.
“As Cierra’s parents, this has been one of the most painful weeks of our lives,” the statement read. “We’ve seen the posts, the headlines, the hurt and the hate. And while Cierra hasn’t seen any of it yet, we have. And so have the people who love her.”
They emphasized they are not attempting to excuse her actions:
“We’re not here to justify or ignore what’s surfaced. We understand why people are upset, and we know accountability matters. But what’s happening online right now has gone far beyond that. The threats. The cruel messages. The attacks on her family, her friends, even her supporters — it’s heartbreaking. It’s uncalled for. And no one deserves that kind of hate, no matter what mistake they’ve made.”
The parents added that Cierra has yet to see the extent of the backlash due to being in isolation post-exit, but they trust she will address the issue herself.
“We know our daughter. We know her heart. And when she returns, we believe she’ll face this with honesty, growth, and grace. While she’ll always be our little girl, she’s also a woman — one who will take responsibility in her own time and her own voice.”
A Call for Compassion
The statement concluded with a plea for empathy during what the family described as an overwhelming time.
“Until then, we’re simply asking for compassion. For patience. For basic human decency. Not just for her, but for everyone caught in the middle of this. Thank you to those who’ve continued to show love, even when it’s not easy.”
Ortega’s removal from Love Island USA has reignited conversations around vetting reality TV contestants, the consequences of online behavior, and the boundaries of public accountability.
