Congress Holds High-Level CWC Meet; Shashi Tharoor, Siddaramaiah Among Attendees.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday chaired a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi’s Indira Bhawan.

The high-level meeting is attended by senior party leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and several key figures from across the country.

Prominent attendees include Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, former MP Salman Khurshid, and MPs Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Rajeev Shukla. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was also present, despite recent remarks seen as diverging from the party’s official stance.

Calling the meeting “very important,” Harish Rawat told reporters, “One cannot even imagine that in independent India, Mahatma Gandhi’s name could be removed from the MGNREGA. This is a completely unacceptable decision.” M. Veerappa Moily added that “very important issues concerning the nation will be discussed.”

Sources said the CWC is expected to deliberate on the party’s strategy for launching a major movement against the VB G-RAM-G Act. Other agenda items likely include the National Herald case, issues concerning the Aravalli region, and key political matters.

Meanwhile, around a dozen protesters gathered outside the AICC headquarters, calling for Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara to be appointed as the next Chief Minister. The demonstrators raised slogans and displayed posters advocating for the elevation of Dalit leadership, asserting that it was time for a Dalit Chief Minister in Karnataka.
