Diljit Dosanjh Backs CJP Parliament March, Says He’s Ready to Be Called ‘Anti-National’ Again

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has extended his support to students protesting under the CJP movement, urging authorities to engage with their demands and warning that he expects to once again face the “anti-national” label for speaking out.

Taking to Instagram Stories after reports of action against student protesters, Diljit appealed for dialogue instead of confrontation, saying students deserve to be heard.

‘Students Should Not Be Treated This Way’

In his post, Diljit wrote:

“Aj Jo hoyea Baut Maada Hoyea.. Students Naal Edan Treat Nhi Hona Chaida c.. Mai Authorities Nu Request Karda Ke Students Dian Demands Nu sunn Leya Javey.. Lokan Di Avaaz Rab Di Avaaz Hundi Aa.”

The message translates to:

“What happened today was very unfortunate. Students should not be treated this way. I request the authorities to listen to their demands. The voice of the people is the voice of God.”

Recalls Farmers’ Protest Backlash

The actor-singer also reflected on the criticism and legal troubles he says he faced after supporting the farmers’ protest, adding that he expects history to repeat itself.

Diljit said he has been branded “anti-national” on several occasions and believes similar accusations will follow his latest comments. He also claimed he encountered significant backlash and legal issues after publicly backing the farmers’ agitation, though he did not elaborate on those matters.

Why Are Students Protesting?

The protests stem from the controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 medical entrance examination, which has been hit by allegations of a question paper leak and tampering of OMR answer sheets. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has acknowledged irregularities, while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing an alleged paper leak network.

Public outrage over the issue gave momentum to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical youth movement founded by Abhijeet Dipke after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant likened unemployed youth to “cockroaches” during court proceedings.

The movement has since evolved into a wider protest campaign demanding accountability in the examination process. Activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the CJP’s sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 28, launching an indefinite hunger strike and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. On July 20, thousands of students and supporters marched towards Parliament as part of the group’s “Sansad Chalo” protest.

Veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Naseeruddin Shah and Abhay Deol have urged the government to hold talks with Sonam Wangchuk, while Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, Anurag Kashyap, Shilpa Rao and several others have also expressed solidarity with the protesting students and called for their concerns to be addressed through dialogue.
