Fans of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah have been eagerly waiting for the return of the beloved character Dayaben, played by Disha Vakani, who has been missing from the show for over seven years. Recently, Disha’s on-screen and real-life brother, Mayur Vakani, opened up about her absence, confirming that she won’t be returning as she is currently focused on her family and children.

“I have closely seen her journey since I am two years older. One thing I’ve realised is that when you perform with honesty and belief, blessings follow. She truly is blessed and has worked extremely hard, which is why people love her so much as Daya,” Mayur told ETimes.

He added, “My father always taught us to perform every role sincerely, and Disha has carried that philosophy into real life. Today, she is performing her role as a mother with complete dedication, and that has always been her priority.”

Disha went on maternity leave in 2018 and has not returned to the show since. Just a few months ago, creator Asit Modi confirmed to News18 Showsha that Disha would not be coming back.

“It’s difficult for her now. Life changes after marriage, and balancing work with young children is challenging. I remain hopeful that maybe, someday, a miracle will happen and she might return. If not, we may have to bring another Dayaben into the show,” Asit Modi said.

Despite Dayaben’s absence, TMKOC continues to thrive. The show recently celebrated 4,500 episodes and remains a favorite on the TRP charts. Over the years, the narrative has evolved to explore the lives of multiple residents of Gokuldham Society, rather than focusing on a single character, keeping the show fresh and engaging for audiences.
