Ensure Peaceful Eid: Delhi High Court Directs Police Amid Uttam Nagar Tensions

The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed authorities to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the observance of Eid in Uttam Nagar, following recent tensions in the area.

A bench led by Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia emphasised that police arrangements must instil a sense of safety and confidence among residents. The court instructed both the police and civil administration to take all necessary legal measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the festival.

The directions came in response to a public interest litigation filed by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights, which raised concerns about possible communal tensions ahead of Eid celebrations in the locality.

Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the court observed that Eid is a time of joy and urged authorities to ensure that no disruption affects public life. It further directed that no individual or group should be allowed to engage in activities that could trigger unrest or disturb harmony.

The bench also clarified that heightened security arrangements would remain in place until Ram Navami to maintain continued peace in the area.

Assuring compliance, the police informed the court that adequate personnel, along with Central Armed Police Forces, have already been deployed in Uttam Nagar since early March.

The heightened alert follows the death of a 26-year-old man during a clash between two families amid Holi celebrations earlier this month. Authorities have since detained several individuals, including a minor, in connection with the incident.
