Zubeen Garg Death: FIR Filed Against Singapore Event Manager for Negligence.
Assamese music legend Zubeen Garg tragically passed away on September 19, 2025, following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was pulled from the sea by local authorities and taken to Singapore General Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. Despite doctors’ efforts, Garg, 52, could not be saved.
An FIR has now been filed at Morigaon Police Station in Assam against Shyamkanu Mahanta, manager of the 4th North East India Festival, by advocate Ratul Borah. Mahanta has been accused of negligence and criminal misconduct, with allegations that his decision to involve Garg in a poorly managed event contributed to the singer’s death.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Garg went for a swim without a life jacket at a party in Singapore ahead of his scheduled performance on September 20, and suffered a heart attack. His body remains in Singapore for post-mortem and is expected to be sent to Assam for funeral rites.
Following Garg’s untimely demise, the organisers of the 4th North East India Festival announced the event’s cancellation. In a statement, they expressed grief over the singer’s passing and confirmed that the festival would not continue as a mark of respect.
