The playful festival of Holi turned into a nightmare for a four-year-old boy in the Koradi area of Nagpur district in Maharashtra on Wednesday, when his grandmother allegedly poured hot water on him after he sprayed colour on her.

The incident occurred on March 3 in Ward No. 2 of the Aramshin area and was captured on a CCTV camera, news agency PTI reported.

The child was playing outside his house with a spray bottle filled with paint when he accidentally sprayed it on his grandmother, Sindhu Thackeray, who was filling a bucket with water heated over a Holi fire. Police said she became enraged and allegedly threw the boiling water on the boy.

The child, identified as Om, suffered severe burns below the waist and was admitted to a private hospital in Nagpur. Doctors have estimated that he sustained about 45% burn injuries. Police have initiated the process to register a case against the woman.

A video of the incident circulating online shows Sindhu, dressed in a black saree, walking with a bucket filled with water. The child approaches her and tries to spray colours on her, following which she throws water from the bucket on him. The boy is seen screaming in pain and jumping away. Another woman, likely carrying cold water, then rushes in and pours it on the child in an attempt to ease his injuries. The grandmother also appears to join in moments later.

11 injured in Barabanki clash

In a separate incident linked to Holi celebrations, at least 11 people were injured in a clash in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh after a dispute over playing with colours escalated into violence.

According to PTI, two groups were involved in a heated argument that quickly turned into a physical confrontation, with people allegedly attacking each other with sticks, batons and iron rods for about 10 minutes. The incident triggered panic in the area before locals intervened to bring the situation under control.

A local resident, Avdhesh, told PTI that members of the rival group entered his house when there were no male members present and assaulted his family. He alleged that when he and others arrived and tried to intervene, they were also attacked.
