Hyundai India Names Tarun Garg as MD & CEO Following Unsoo Kim’s Resignation

Tarun Garg has been appointed as the new managing director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., becoming the first Indian to head the company since its entry into India with the Santro in 1996.

His tenure will officially begin on 1 January 2026, succeeding Unsoo Kim, who is returning to South Korea for a strategic role at Hyundai Motor Co. The appointment is subject to shareholder approval, and Garg will serve as MD & CEO designate until the start of next year.

Garg, a mechanical engineer and IIM Lucknow alumnus, began his career in 1994 as a management trainee at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., eventually rising to the position of executive director of marketing by 2019.

He joined Hyundai India in December 2019 as director of sales, marketing & service and was promoted to chief operating officer in January 2023. During his tenure alongside Unsoo Kim, Hyundai India successfully launched India’s largest IPO last year, strengthening the company’s presence in the automotive market.

Garg’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Hyundai India, highlighting the company’s growing focus on local leadership in its key global markets.
