A Pakistani terrorist was killed after security forces foiled an infiltration attempt in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Sunday.

According to the Indian Army, the infiltration bid was thwarted during a joint operation carried out with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the intervening night of March 14 and 15. The operation was launched in the general area of Buchhar in Uri after receiving specific intelligence inputs about suspected militant movement.

Troops deployed in the area detected suspicious activity in dense vegetation and repositioned their ambush teams. When security personnel challenged the suspect, the militant opened indiscriminate fire, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire.

In a statement, the Army’s Chinar Corps said alert troops had spotted the militant’s movement before engaging him.

“Alert troops spotted suspicious movement of a terrorist in the thicket. The ambush was readjusted and the terrorist was challenged resulting in terrorist opening indiscriminate fire. In the contact, a Pak terrorist was eliminated. Warlike stores including an AK rifle, pistols and large quantity of ammunition have been recovered,” the statement said.

Security forces also recovered weapons and other warlike stores from the site, including an AK rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition.

Earlier this month, the Army had foiled another infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Bhimber Gali area of Rajouri district after detecting suspicious militant movement during the early hours of the day.

Following that incident, additional troops were deployed and surveillance was intensified using both ground patrols and aerial monitoring to prevent further infiltration attempts.

In a separate operation on February 19–20, security forces also thwarted an infiltration bid in the Sunderbani sector, leading to the seizure of arms and ammunition.
