Infosys Asks Work-From-Home Employees to Share Home Electricity Details

Infosys has asked employees working under its hybrid model to share details of their household electricity consumption.

As part of an effort to better measure the company’s environmental impact beyond its office campuses. Under Infosys’ hybrid work policy, employees are required to work from the office for at least 10 days each month, with the remaining days spent working from home.

Part of long-term sustainability push

According to a report by The Economic Times, Infosys has launched a work-from-home electricity consumption survey as part of its long-standing sustainability reporting framework, which the company has followed for more than 15 years.

With hybrid work becoming a permanent feature, the initiative seeks to account for electricity used during work-from-home hours that contributes to the company’s overall greenhouse gas emissions.

CFO outlines rationale to staff

In an email to employees, Infosys Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said the environmental footprint of work now extends beyond office buildings into employees’ homes.

He noted that electricity consumed during work-from-home hours also forms part of the company’s emissions profile and that collecting accurate data would help improve the quality and credibility of Infosys’ sustainability reporting.

Sanghrajka added that sustainability at Infosys is viewed as a shared responsibility between the company and its workforce, rather than a standalone corporate objective.

Details sought in the survey

The survey asks employees to provide information on the use of household electrical appliances—such as lights, fans, computers, air conditioners and heaters—during working hours. Employees are also asked about lighting wattage, the use of solar power at home, and other energy-related practices.

In addition, Infosys has invited employees to share personal initiatives or suggestions they may have adopted to reduce electricity consumption while working from home.
