Iran Mocks Trump Over Hormuz Threat, Revives ‘Food Truck’ Security Jibe

A senior Iranian lawmaker has hit back at US President Donald Trump over his threat to take control of the Strait of Hormuz, telling him to focus on his own security instead of making what he called “endless bluffs.”

Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks on social media a day after Trump claimed that the US Navy was maintaining a full blockade of the strategically important waterway.

“The US President ought to worry about his own security rather than his endless bluffing regarding the Strait of Hormuz,” Azizi wrote, adding a reference to Trump potentially “hiding in a food truck.”

Why Did Iran Mention a ‘Food Truck’?

Azizi was referring to reports about Trump’s departure from Ankara following the NATO summit in July.

Trump had arrived in Turkey aboard a Boeing 747-8 donated by Qatar and was publicly seen boarding the aircraft. However, a report by The Washington Post said he was later moved to a smaller C-32A military aircraft after being transported across the airport in a catering truck.

The larger aircraft reportedly acted as a decoy, while journalists and some White House staff initially believed Trump was travelling on it.

Trump later confirmed that he had been moved from the larger aircraft after the Secret Service and US military advised him to switch planes. However, details surrounding the reported Iranian threat have not been publicly established.

Trump Threatens to Claim Strait of Hormuz

Trump’s latest comments have further escalated tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking in New York, Trump said he intended to declare the Strait of Hormuz a US “territory” after what he described as the complete defeat of Iran. He also claimed that the US Navy was maintaining a full blockade of the waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial global energy corridor between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, carrying a substantial share of the world’s seaborne oil and gas supplies.

Iran Rejects US Control Claim

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi rejected Trump’s suggestion that the strategic waterway could come under US control.

Gharibabadi said the strait could not be seized through a social media post, military force, executive order or political speech, while stressing that Iran would not be intimidated by threats.

Meanwhile, a White House official told US media that Trump was joking when he spoke about declaring the Strait of Hormuz US territory.
