JDU Leader Backs Nishant Kumar as Future Bihar CM, Says He Should Follow Nitish’s Path

Senior JDU leader Devesh Chandra Thakur on Sunday backed Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar as a potential future chief minister, saying he hoped the son of party president Nitish Kumar would follow in his father’s footsteps and rise to the highest levels of public life.

Thakur made the remarks during Nishant Kumar’s visit to Sitamarhi, where JDU workers gave the minister a warm welcome across the district. Asked whether he could see Nishant becoming Bihar chief minister in the future, Thakur said politics was about possibilities and expressed his hope that the young leader would reach the highest position.

Thakur Praises Nitish Kumar’s Legacy

Thakur, a former state minister and former chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council, praised Nitish Kumar’s contribution to the state and his long tenure as chief minister.

He said the JDU hoped Nishant Kumar would carry forward his father’s legacy and earn recognition through his work in public life. Party workers accompanying the minister also expressed confidence in Nishant’s leadership and said they did not see Nitish Kumar’s move away from active state politics as leaving a leadership vacuum.

Nishant Kumar’s Entry Into Politics

Nishant Kumar, 45, entered politics in March this year, shortly before Nitish Kumar decided to contest the Rajya Sabha elections after more than two decades as Bihar chief minister.

Initially reluctant to join the new state government headed by BJP leader Samrat Choudhary as deputy chief minister, Nishant later accepted a cabinet position following pressure from JDU workers and leaders.

Asked to assess Nishant’s performance as health minister, Thakur said it was too early to judge him, noting that the young leader had only recently begun his political career.

Nishant Vows to Serve All Sections

During his Sitamarhi visit, Nishant Kumar said he was pleased to visit the city associated with Goddess Sita and prayed that he could meet the expectations of the people.

He said he wanted to work for every section of society, including women, OBCs and EBCs, following the approach he associated with his father’s political career.

Thakur’s remarks marked a notable endorsement of Nishant Kumar’s future political prospects, while the minister’s reception in Sitamarhi highlighted the support he is receiving from the JDU organisation.
