JeM Commander Alleges Pak Army Honoured Terrorists Killed in India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’
A few days after admitting damage caused in Pakistan’s Bahawalpur during India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander Ilyas Kashmiri shared another claim on social media. In a widely circulated clip, he alleged that Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir directed top officers to attend the funerals of terrorists killed in the Indian counter-operation.
Kashmiri said the army chief instructed commanders to honour the slain terrorists and ensure heavy security during the funerals. Another video frame shows Pakistan’s Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry in an interview with the BBC defending the tributes, questioning why the country’s forces would not pay homage, and noting that India had yet to provide proof of JeM’s involvement in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Earlier, Kashmiri had admitted that the family of JeM chief Masood Azhar was “torn into pieces” in India’s May 7 missile strikes on Bahawalpur. The attack killed Azhar’s elder sister and her husband, a nephew and his wife, another niece, five children, Azhar’s close associate and mother, and two other companions.
Following the strikes, Pakistan army generals, senior police officers, and top bureaucrats attended the funerals. Bahawalpur has been a JeM stronghold since Azhar’s release in 1999 during the IC-814 hijacking exchange.
The events follow the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, mostly civilians, prompting India’s retaliatory missile strikes on JeM targets in Bahawalpur under Operation Sindoor.
