Jharkhand Students Protest Teacher Transfer, Block Chief Flees After Clash

Students in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district have been protesting.

The transfer of a teacher from a local high school, with the agitation entering its third day on Thursday.

The protest, which began at the district collectorate and later spread to Kandi block, intensified after students confronted Kandi block chief Pinku Pandey over their demand to cancel the teacher’s transfer.

Protest Escalates in Kandi

The students are opposing the transfer of teacher Malay Singh and have been demanding that he be allowed to continue at the school.

Tensions rose when Pandey arrived at the protest site to speak with students who had blocked the road. During the confrontation, Pandey allegedly slapped one of the students.

The incident further escalated the situation, with protesters allegedly damaging Pandey’s vehicle. The block chief then left the area and took shelter at a nearby police station.

Students also reached the police station following the confrontation, while the road blockade continued.

Students Maintain Their Demands

The protesters have refused to withdraw their agitation and continue to demand that Singh’s transfer be cancelled.

They are also seeking action over the confrontation at the protest site. The continued road blockade has added to pressure on the local administration to resolve the dispute.

Police Send Additional Force

A sub-divisional police officer said authorities had received information about the incident and informed senior officials.

Additional police personnel were being deployed to the area, while officials were attempting to persuade the students to end the protest and restore normal traffic.

The administration is now facing the task of defusing tensions while addressing the students’ demand over the teacher’s transfer.
