Kangana Ranaut Hits Back at Naseeruddin Shah Over Bollywood’s Silence on Protests.

Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has responded sharply to veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah after his comments on Bollywood’s silence over student-led protests.

Shah had questioned why several prominent personalities from the film industry had remained silent, suggesting that they would speak out when their conscience prompted them to do so. He used the analogy of a dog unable to bark while holding a bone in its mouth.

Ranaut reacted to his remarks through her Instagram Stories. She questioned why Shah himself had not spoken about the protests in Jharkhand and also shared a video featuring actor Piyush Mishra discussing Shah’s comments.

In her post, Ranaut said she was proud to stand up for the country she lives in and accused Shah of defending the interests of a neighbouring country. She also took a personal swipe at the veteran actor, calling him a “lomdi”.

Ranaut further said that being called a dog could be considered a compliment because of the qualities of loyalty and affection associated with the animal. She added that she would rather be called a dog than a “lomdi” like Shah.

What Did Naseeruddin Shah Say?

Shah recently spoke about the silence of Bollywood personalities regarding protests in New Delhi. During an interaction with The Wire, he questioned why several well-known actors had not publicly addressed the issue.

Referring to a saying about a dog holding a bone in its mouth, Shah suggested that people may eventually speak out when they feel their conscience demands it or when the circumstances directly affect them.

When asked whether people were taking advantage of others remaining silent and suppressing their conscience, Shah agreed. He also said that it remained to be seen how long such a situation could continue.

Ranaut’s response has now brought the contrasting views of the two actors into the spotlight, adding another chapter to their ongoing public exchanges.
