Karoline Leavitt’s past remark resurfaces after ‘shots fired’ at Trump event

Karoline Leavitt’s pre-event remark about “shots fired” has gone viral after a shooting scare disrupted an event attended by Donald Trump, highlighting the unfortunate timing of what was meant as a metaphor.

Leavitt had made the comment during an interaction with a Fox News journalist ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, referring to Trump’s typically sharp and combative speaking style. “There will be some shots fired tonight,” she had said, alluding to verbal jabs expected in his speech.

However, the phrase took on a chilling context when loud bangs interrupted the dinner while Trump was seated on the dais—his first appearance at the event as president. The disturbance caused immediate panic, with attendees ducking for cover.

Security personnel from the United States Secret Service swiftly surrounded Trump and escorted him off the stage as a precaution. Authorities later confirmed that a suspect had opened fire near the venue and was quickly neutralised.

Trump later described the attacker as a possible “lone wolf” and said one security officer was injured but protected by a bulletproof vest. He also admitted that he initially mistook the sound for something less serious, while the First Lady quickly recognised the danger.

A video shared later showed the suspect breaching a barricade before being intercepted by security forces. While Leavitt’s comment was clearly intended as political rhetoric, its timing—just before an actual shooting incident—has drawn widespread attention online, with many noting the eerie coincidence.
