Indian diplomat Anupama Singh has drawn widespread attention after delivering a forceful response to Pakistan during the 62nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), where she described Pakistan as a “Frankenstein state” grappling with the consequences of its own policies on terrorism.

Representing India at the UNHRC in Geneva, Singh exercised India’s right of reply during an Interactive Dialogue on the UN High Commissioner’s annual report, firmly rejecting Pakistan’s allegations against New Delhi and reiterating India’s position on terrorism and Jammu and Kashmir.

Her remarks quickly made headlines, particularly a pointed observation aimed at Islamabad’s long-standing claims of being a victim of terrorism.

“This is the country where the sitting Defence Minister boasts of hosting, training and deploying terrorists as a state policy, and yet Pakistan calls itself a victim of terrorism,” Singh said.

“It is a living example of a Frankenstein state, which is shocked when its own monster bites back.”

Who Is Anupama Singh?

Anupama Singh is an officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and currently serves as First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva.

Over the years, she has built a career in diplomacy, international relations and public policy, representing India at multilateral forums and international institutions.

Singh joined the Indian Foreign Service after completing her training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in 2014, entering one of the country’s most prestigious diplomatic services.

From Corporate Consulting to Diplomacy

Before joining the civil services, Singh worked in the private sector with KPMG, where she served as a Consultant and later as a Senior Consultant between 2012 and 2014.

Her professional background spans finance, business strategy and policy analysis, experience that has complemented her later diplomatic assignments.

Strong Academic Credentials

Singh’s academic profile reflects a blend of management, finance and technology.

She holds an MBA in Finance from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi, one of India’s leading business schools.

Prior to that, she earned a B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT).

She also pursued the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme between 2008 and 2011, focusing on areas such as corporate finance, valuation and portfolio management.

According to her public profile on X, Singh’s interests extend beyond foreign policy and diplomacy. She has expressed an interest in economics, science and technology, as well as art, culture and literature.
