South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk left fans in awe after orchestrating a sensational victory against India in Match 10 of the Women’s World Cup 2025 on Thursday, October 9
At the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. De Klerk smashed a match-winning 84* off 54 balls, including eight fours and five sixes, guiding South Africa to chase down 252 in just 48.5 overs.
Coming in at number eight, she formed a crucial 69-run partnership off 60 balls with Chloe Tryon for the seventh wicket. After losing her batting partner, de Klerk took complete charge, reaching her half-century in 40 balls and accelerating brilliantly in the final three overs.
“I am lost for words. Finishing off the game like this gives us immense confidence. I thrive under pressure and love playing in World Cups. Beating India at home required our best, and we showed we are capable of performing in crunch situations. Even needing 7-8 runs per over in the last 10 overs, we were confident we could get it done,” de Klerk said during the post-match presentation.
She also credited Tryon for her support and highlighted her own role as a finisher in the side. “Chloe batted brilliantly and took the pressure off me. Finishing games is my role in the team, especially coming in at number eight. Today was a good wicket, and we’ll take a couple of days to reflect and learn even from a win,” she added.
De Klerk’s 84* is the second-highest score in Women’s ODIs by a batter at number eight or lower, behind Richa Ghosh’s 94. Her innings helped South Africa secure their first win over India after five consecutive defeats.
